NPR’s Mountain Stage plays Piney Session this week

So in 2013 Piney had a life highlight, that is, getting to play NPR’s Mountain Stage, which is a beautiful venue in West Virginia. In addition to being a great live show, it’s also tx-ed all across America on NPR. To make this experience even more special, she shared the bill with some incredible acts Calexico, Camper Van Beethoven, Bonnie “Prince” Billy (aka Will Oldham) and Bahamas. To add drama to the whole thing, there was a blizzard and Piney & Garo nearly didn’t make it; there were visa issues with her usual band members, so Piney got some help from her friends Rob Campanella and G (Graham Roby), who flew East Coast from LA in a blizzard just to play this show with her. The result, a magic kind of chaos, meeting some of the nicest people in the world, and sharing a stage with some of her heroes. It was this experience that inspired Piney’s song “Tilt A Whirl.”

This week (w/c 25th Sept) Mountain Stage is re-transmitting this gig so if you are in the USA you can hear it on your local NPR radio station, the usual Mountain Stage slot. If you are anywhere else in the world, you can stream it! Check it out: https://www.mountainstage.org/radio/PineyGir

Here is a little video chronicling the journey w/Piney cover of Will Oldham’s “Ease Down The Road.”
